BASKETBALL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Our CORE4 Basketball workouts are designed for pro players, collegiate, high school, and middle school (ages 12 and up).

The workouts are designed for all positions – point guards, shooting guards, and post players. All the workouts can be done by yourself or with a partner.

We customize drills that are specific to improving your ability to handle the ball in pressure situations, get open without the ball, finish near the rim, score in the post, score from the perimeter, and much more.

SHOOTING TECHNIQUE

Good basketball shooting technique doesn't develop overnight. It takes years to complete the number of repetitions required to embed the proper shot mechanics into the body's muscle memory. It also takes feedback.

Feedback lets you know what you're doing right, so you can repeat it. And it lets you know what you're doing wrong, so you can correct it. Each shot players take is a learning opportunity. Every shot provides feedback. Was the shot long? Short? Flat? Pushed to the left or right? Was it blocked? Did it swish through the bottom of the net? All of these outcomes provide feedback. Learning how the shot feels as it rolls off the hand and observing the outcome each time helps players learn what feels right and what needs to be corrected.

BALL HANDLING

Ball-handling and dribbling are of paramount importance. These two skills allow the basketball to be advanced legally throughout the court of play.

At the Introductory Level, ball- handling and dribbling take on the most basic form, allowing players to become familiar with the basketball. At more advanced levels, our elite players will refine technique with more complex drills.

EXAMPLE: Introduction Basketball Familiarization

In this skill, the young player will become acquainted with the basketball by moving it from hand to hand, controlling it through all movements.

It is important to ensure that the player is confident handling the basketball while remaining stationary.

Once players become consistent with this movement, they can begin to move the basketball with greater speed from hand to hand.
